The Boeing 747-8 Freighter is a freight carrier version of the Boeing 747-8 that won popularity for passenger air flights. The new B747F designed on the basis of 747-400F may transport cargoes at a range up to 8 130 km. The Boeing 747F is 5.6 m longer than its forerunner with capacity of 140 tonnes.  Its empty weight is 191.1 t versus its passenger equivalent with 213.2 t, but max takeoff weight remained unchanged - 442 t.

Due to identity of the Boeing 747-8 Freighter with the passenger version, it is advantageous for compatibility of key components and training commonality for operators piloting the B747F. Sales of the Boeing 747F are popular due to its long career in all-freight service being the largest freighter in the world. For comparison, the Airbus A380F freighter never got to market and exists only as a passenger version. But even so, when compared to the А380F, the Boeing’s 747F cost efficiency is better in times: even empty Boeing 747-8 Freighter is 80 tonnes lighter than empty А380F. Consequently, the B747F consumes 24% less fuel per a tonne of cargo. In addition, each full load flight costs 21% less at max range. The B747F costs per one tonne-kilometer are 23% lower. Airfreight companies are still interested in sales of the Boeing 747-8 Freighter even on the secondary market.

The Boeing 747-8 Freighter has the same engine unit (GEnx-2B67) as its passenger counterpart thus ensuring more benefit per a tone of cargo due to fuel saving. The Boeing’s 747F reputation also won due to reduced hazardous emissions. The Boeing’s 747-8 Freighter coursing speed reduced to around 908 km/h. The Boeing’s 747-8 Freighter wing got evolutionary modification. Comparing with the 747-400, one can see differences in the jetliner’s wing bending and structure. Technologically the wing has become stronger thus improving aerodynamic performance. The wing is also equipped with single-slotted slats and double-slotted flaps. Owing to improved aerodynamics the Boeing’s 747-8 Freighter fuel consumption is reduced, with total maintenance cost cutting.

In comparison with the previous freight version, the Boeing 747F has 120 extra cubic meters of cargo space, which means four more pallets on the main deck and two containers and two trays on the lower deck. High loading capacity and practicable power consumption of the freighter allowed 16% cost cutting per a tonne-kilometer versus the 747-400F, with higher transportation range. The Boeing 747-8 Freighter is second to the 747-400ERF, with its range being 900 km shorter, but confidently holds the leading position by load lifting capacity and efficiency. Some features in common can also be seen in the Dreamliner – the same General Electric engines and fly-by-wire system.
