IATA expects airlines to carry 71.6 million tonnes of cargo in 2026, 2.4% more than in 2025. Spread evenly over the year that is about 2.3 tonnes every second, which is what the counter at the top of this page shows. ### What is the largest cargo aircraft I can charter? The Antonov An-124. The An-124-100M-150 lifts up to 150 t and the An-124-100 up to 120 t, with drive-through loading at the nose and tail and its own cranes. Only about 15 are in commercial service worldwide, and the An-225 was lost, so outsize slots are scarce and need early booking. ### How much does it cost to charter a cargo plane? There is no list price: every cargo charter is quoted per flight. The price comes from the aircraft class, the flying hours including the empty positioning legs to collect and return the aircraft, fuel, landing, handling and overflight fees, crew and insurance, and how soon you need it. Short-notice outsize flights cost the most. Send the cargo, route and date for a firm quote. ### What is the biggest cargo plane in the world? The Antonov An-225 Mriya was the largest, but it was destroyed in 2022. The largest cargo aircraft you can charter today is the Antonov An-124, with up to 150 t on the An-124-100M-150; the heaviest-lifting Western freighter is the Boeing 747-8F at 137.7 t. ### How do I charter a cargo plane? Send ICCJET the weight, dimensions and nature of the cargo (including any dangerous goods), the route and the date. We match the aircraft class to the load, find the slot through our partner airlines, and the flight is operated by that airline on your request. ### Can I buy a cargo aircraft? Yes, but freighters are an exclusive product. Few change hands, most sales happen off market, and the ones listed publicly are rare and often priced far above what the aircraft trade for privately. ICCJET works the off-market side through more than 30,000 industry contacts. ### What are the busiest cargo airports? In 2025, according to ACI World: Hong Kong (5.07 million tonnes), Shanghai Pudong (4.10), Anchorage (3.85), Louisville (3.40), Miami (3.13), Memphis (2.97), Incheon (2.95), Doha (2.61), Taipei (2.50) and Guangzhou (2.43). ### Are cargo planes safe? Air transport overall is very safe: IATA counted 1.32 accidents per million flights in 2025. Cargo flights have historically had a larger share of fatal accidents than their share of flights, so the operator, the aircraft, the crew, the load and any dangerous goods should be checked for every flight. ICCJET runs that check before it books a charter. ### What is a P2F or BCF freighter? A passenger jet converted to a freighter: P2F (passenger to freighter), BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter) or SF / BDSF (special freighter). The conversion adds a large main-deck cargo door and a strengthened floor. Conversions such as the 777-300ERSF, A330P2F, A321P2F and 737-800BCF now add more freighters to the market than the factories do. ### Do cargo drones need an airport? No. A cargo plane needs an airport and a runway at both ends, from about 400 m for a Twin Otter to more than 3 km for a fully loaded 747, plus trucks to and from the airport. A cargo drone takes off from a yard, a roof or a field and lands, or lowers the load on a cable, at the destination. That makes drones the simplest option for small, urgent, local deliveries, within their payload of a few kilograms up to about 350 kg and with approval from the aviation authority. ### How quickly can a cargo charter be arranged? It depends on the aircraft class. Smaller freighters and turboprops can often be found at short notice; outsize aircraft such as the An-124 are scarce worldwide and should be booked as early as possible. Send the cargo details, route and date to info@icc-jet.com and we check availability with our partner airlines. ### Can drones carry real cargo yet? Yes, for light loads. Drones from 2 kg to 350 kg already fly commercial work, such as the Dronamics Black Swan (350 kg over 2,500 km). Between 350 kg and about 1.5 t there is no commercial drone yet; types such as the TP1000, Feihong-98, an uncrewed Cessna Caravan and Natilus Kona aim at that gap, with 1 to 5 t drones expected around 2028 to 2030. ## Related pages - [Aircraft charter](https://iccjet.com/aircraft-charter.html) - [Aircraft for sale](https://iccjet.com/aircraft-for-sale.html) - [Aircraft route planner](https://iccjet.com/aircraft-route-planner.html) - [Contact ICCJET](https://iccjet.com/contact)
