A shortened passenger Boeing 737-500 version designed against the B737-300 baseline became capable of flight operations within a radius increased by 800 kilometers. The Boeing 737 500 is suitable for short and medium range service, without losing its cost effectiveness in the period of seasonal reduced passenger traffic density. The Boeing 737-500 provides high fuel efficiency. The replacement of Pratt & Whitney engines installed on the baseline В737-200 by the more efficient CFM56-3 TFEs allowed a quarter reduction of fuel consumption, providing increased range and lowering the hazardous air emissions.  

Implementation of a unique aero-technical achievement in form of noise-suppressing effect pleasantly resulted in turbo-jet dynamic engines designed based upon such a technology, when the main turbine obtains only a small air jet delivered by blades. The main air supply flows around the turbine blending at the outlet with jet stream and absorbing the noise of powerful unit. Consequently, there is a relatively low noise level observed inside the Boeing 737-500, which means that passengers enjoy a comfortable flight in quiet undisturbed atmosphere.

The Boeing’s 737-500 avionics is represented by the digital complex Honeywell EFIS recognizable by six branded displays in the cockpit. The engine unit in form of the two turbo-jet engines was designed by CFM International. The СFМ56-ЗС1 engines ensure thrust of 9 080 kilograms of force each, with 60 550 kilograms of all-up weight allowed. The Boeing dimensions could be called rather miniature among all passenger versions: height on ramp – 11.13 meters, wing span – 28.88 meters and length of 31 meters only. Due to its shortened fuselage the Boeing 737-500 has a smaller weight as compared to its baseline and is able to develop maximum speed of 945 kilometers an hour, with the coursing speed of 910 kilometers an hour maintained at a height of 11 300 meters. Fully loaded aircraft covers 4 440 kilometers, and with minimum load (104 passengers) – 5 550 kilometers.

The Boeing 737 500 is capable to transport from 104 to 122 passengers in the two-class variant.  The two-class configuration with eight business class and 96 economy class seating capacity is its most spacious configuration. The Boeing 737-500 is also efficient for frequent low cost operations with 138 seats in the one-class economy class. The smallest version of the “classic” В737 range has such advantages as a spacious cabin, comfortable seats, low noise level and low maintenance cost with high cost efficiency. Thus far, 386 Boeing 737 500 modifications are in service.
